An ordinary round of golf transformed into a masterclass for English amateur Allan Harrison, who defied astronomical odds by carding eight birdies across just nine holes at Fairhaven Golf Club.

The 64-year-old, a former foursomes partner of professional Tommy Fleetwood, started his round with four dropped shots on the front nine. However, a "pasty and a drink" at the halfway house reportedly sparked a remarkable turnaround.

Harrison then fired seven consecutive birdies and eight in total over nine holes. England Golf calculated the odds of an amateur golfer achieving this feat as an astonishing one in 322 billion. For Harrison, who plays off a 0.4 handicap, the odds were estimated at one in 455,000.

Despite his heroics, which included nearly holing out on the 17th, Harrison just missed out on a place in the record books for nine consecutive birdies. He finished second overall in the Silver Pheasant tournament after leading on 40 points after the first round.
