Amazon announced on Wednesday that its AI assistant, Alexa+, will be made available for free on all compatible Fire TV devices in the US. This update will automatically roll out to users, irrespective of whether they have an Amazon Prime subscription.
The new features include conversational search, smart home controls, and AI-powered recommendations. Previously, Alexa+ was priced at $19.99 per month for customers without an Amazon Prime membership.
Compatible devices encompass current-generation Amazon Fire TV Sticks, the Fire TV Cube, Amazon Ember smart TVs, and other smart TVs with built-in Alexa+, such as Hisense and Panasonic. Users will be automatically upgraded and will not need to download an app or sign up for a subscription.
Amazon states that Alexa+ customers now engage in nearly twice as many conversations on Fire TV compared to the original Alexa. The company suggests this indicates users are interacting more with the AI rather than solely using their TV for entertainment.
