Amazon and Nvidia have announced an expanded partnership that will see Amazon add another 2 million Nvidia GPU chips to its data centres. These GPUs, including Nvidia Blackwell Ultra, Rubin, and Rubin Ultra, are scheduled for deployment in Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centres during 2027 and 2028.
This announcement follows an earlier agreement five months ago for Amazon to deploy over 1 million Nvidia GPUs. Nvidia stated that demand has since exceeded initial expectations, influencing the decision to work more closely.
The partnership extends beyond chip purchases, with Nvidia's technology, including networking hardware, open models, CPUs, data processing software, and robotics platform, set for integration across AWS. The companies cited "surging demand" from various sectors, including startups, enterprises, AI labs, and governments, as a factor in their closer collaboration.
Nvidia also reported strong financial results, with second-quarter sales reaching $96.2 billion, surpassing analyst estimates. Data centre revenue accounted for $89 billion of this total, marking a 117% increase from the previous year.
