A new period drama titled 'Pressure' provides a fresh perspective on the historic D-Day 1944 gamble. The film, adapted by David Haig from his own play with director Anthony Maras, stars Andrew Scott as James Stagg, a Scottish meteorologist.
Scott's character, dressed in an RAF uniform, arrives at the top-secret allied base of Southwick House in Hampshire. He is intent on informing Allied Commander Dwight “Ike” Eisenhower, played by Brendan Fraser, about an outlier forecast predicting bad weather. Stagg's forecast suggests D-Day should be delayed from Eisenhower’s planned date of 5 June.
This recommendation sparks rage from Col Irving P Krick, an American meteorologist portrayed by Chris Messina, who had previously held Eisenhower's confidence. General Montgomery, played by Damien Lewis, is also depicted as eager for the operation to proceed immediately, while Stagg maintains the need to wait.
