Aneurin Donald is set to make his international debut for England in the first T20 match against Sri Lanka. The 29-year-old Derbyshire batter will open the batting alongside Jos Buttler at the Utilita Bowl on Tuesday.
Donald's selection follows a period of strong domestic form, including being the top six-hitter in this year’s Vitality Blast with 37. Head coach Brendon McCullum noted Donald's "raw power" and ability to "go from ball one," comparing his style to Phil Salt, who is currently injured.
The England top six will also feature captain Harry Brook, Tom Banton, Jordan Cox, and Will Jacks. Jamie Overton, Sonny Baker, and Josh Tongue will form the seam attack, while Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid are the chosen spinners. Jofra Archer will be rested for the game due to a substantial workload, with McCullum indicating a focus on player management.
