Brendon McCullum has pledged to hold England's white-ball squad to the same rigorous standards as the Test team, reminding them that their lifestyle "comes with responsibilities." This declaration coincides with the arrival of Stephen Fleming, the new red-ball head coach, initiating a split management structure for English cricket.
Fleming's two-week stay will involve meetings with the ECB, Test captain Joe Root, and key county cricket figures. He is also scheduled to meet McCullum's limited-overs squad in Manchester before Saturday's third T20 against Sri Lanka.
McCullum confirmed that the stricter disciplinary expectations prioritised by Root will be mirrored in his own regime. Brydon Carse, for instance, has been omitted from all formats since an incident outside a Derby nightclub last month, indicating a firmer approach.
Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has joined the white-ball backroom team in a mentoring role. McCullum stated that Pietersen's past criticisms of the squad were part of the appeal, as the team seeks fresh perspectives.
