Anthro Energy has broken ground on a new factory in Louisville, Kentucky, which will produce battery materials, including electrolytes for solid-state batteries. The facility is designed to manufacture 25 gigawatt-hours of electrolytes, sufficient for more than 300,000 electric vehicles.
The company aims for the factory to become a key part of the US battery supply chain, providing a domestic source of materials not controlled by Chinese companies. Production at the Louisville site is scheduled to commence in 2028.
Anthro Energy secured a $24.9 million award from the Department of Energy and $18.4 million in investment tax credits for the factory. Kentucky also contributed $2.3 million in tax incentives, linked to the creation of 110 permanent jobs.
The factory will initially produce a range of electrolytes, with plans to eventually dedicate much of its output to Anthro's own polymer product, Proteus. This material is designed to integrate into existing production lines and could help advance solid- and semi-solid-state battery technology.
