Anti-social behaviour impacts Blakelaw FC and local services

Anti-social behaviour, including fires being set and eggs thrown at cars, has reportedly led to parents being scared to take their children to training sessions, according to the chairman of Blakelaw FC.

Gavin Campbell of the Newcastle-based club said youths have been causing trouble for a couple of months, with fireworks also reportedly aimed at players. He added that a fire was recently set in the car park.

Northumbria Police stated they have identified 20 young people, some of whom have been arrested and are currently on police bail. The force also holds face-to-face meetings to address community concerns.

Stagecoach services are avoiding the Blakelaw area in the evenings due to the anti-social behaviour. A fire engine was also taken out of service after items were thrown at it.

Reform UK councillor Rachel Davison has called for an emergency full council meeting to discuss potential solutions, including curfews, speaking to families, or community service. Newcastle Council said it has held meetings, put on patrols, and installed CCTV in response to concerns.
