Phil Schiller, who has headed Apple's App Store since 2015, has stepped down from his position, according to a Bloomberg report on Monday. Mr. Schiller, who joined Apple in 1987, will transition to an Apple Fellow role, working on unspecified projects. Company insiders reportedly view this as a step towards his eventual retirement.
Carson Oliver, who has worked in the App Store division for over 14 years, will take over its day-to-day operations. The App Store is also being moved from the marketing department to the services division, led by Eddy Cue.
Mr. Schiller's move follows a series of other high-level departures from Apple. Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams retired in December, as did Lisa Jackson, vice president for Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, and general counsel Kate Adams. Jennifer Bailey, head of Apple Pay, is set to retire in October. In June, Paul Meade, vice president for the Vision Pro headset, left to join OpenAI, leading to a downsizing of the Vision Pro team.
