Apple has unveiled a new range of smart home products, including an iPad-like device named HomeView. Designed to function as a central hub for other smart home gadgets, the HomeView can be mounted on walls or placed on tabletops.
The HomeView device, priced from $299, is set to begin shipping next month, with preorders starting today and availability expected from 13 November. It features a 7-inch screen and face recognition, enabling users to manage doorbells, thermostats, and smart locks. The device will also highlight Apple's AI-upgraded Siri virtual assistant.
Apple stated that the HomeView device will not be available in the European Union because Siri AI remains unavailable there due to EU regulations. The company also launched updates for its HomePod smart speaker and Apple TV devices, alongside new accessories from LG and Schneider Electric, including smart thermostats, cameras, and smart locks.
The revamped Siri AI in the HomeView is described as more capable and conversational, utilising personal context from apps like Messages and Calendar to provide more relevant answers. This launch comes as Apple aims to compete with rivals such as Amazon and newer AI companies like OpenAI.
