Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed he intentionally disrupted his team's pre-season training and travel plans to prepare them for unexpected events. This approach reportedly helped the Premier League champions manage a three-hour flight delay when travelling to Italy to play Napoli on Wednesday.
Arteta stated at a news conference on Friday that he creates such challenges so players are ready when disruptions occur. He mentioned examples such as arriving late at stadiums, changing routines, and experiencing flight or train delays.
The manager's methods also include delaying meals or transport, using different routes to grounds, and making dressing rooms hotter and more uncomfortable for players. He believes these actions reduce stress and surprise on matchdays.
