A passenger train narrowly avoided a collision with a telehandler at Hopperton Old Station user worked crossing in North Yorkshire on 27 August 2026. The incident took place at around 08:26.
Despite the near miss, no injuries were reported, and no damage was caused. The crossing is equipped with gates and telephones, and signs instruct vehicle users to contact the signaller for permission before crossing.
Evidence indicates that the telehandler driver had telephoned the signaller and received permission to use the crossing prior to the incident. A preliminary examination has been conducted, and a safety digest is expected to be published on the RAIB website in the coming weeks.
