Aston Villa begin rebuild amid squad changes and stadium expansion

Aston Villa are undergoing a significant rebuild, with nine players departing and new signings arriving, alongside a major stadium expansion project.

  • Nine players have left Aston Villa this summer, including Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Emí Martínez, and Ezri Konsa.
  • New signings Zion Suzuki and Nicolas Jackson made their first starts for the club.
  • Villa Park's North Stand is being redeveloped to increase stadium capacity to almost 50,000 for Euro 2028.

Aston Villa are in a period of significant transition, with a substantial squad overhaul and ongoing stadium redevelopment. Nine players have departed this summer, including key figures such as Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Emí Martínez, and Ezri Konsa, who recently debuted for Arsenal.

The club is bringing in new talent, with 18-year-old forward Ibrahim Mbaye and 24-year-old centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis poised to become the eighth and ninth permanent arrivals. Goalkeeper Zion Suzuki and centre-forward Nicolas Jackson made their first starts for the club, with Suzuki impressing with his authority and long passes, despite a mixed performance.

Off the pitch, Villa Park's North Stand is undergoing a major rebuild. The 6,000-capacity structure is being transformed into a modern stand holding 12,000, aiming to increase the stadium's overall capacity to almost 50,000 in time for Euro 2028. This period of rebuilding, both in the squad and the stadium, suggests that patience will be required as Unai Emery's new side takes shape.
