Aston Villa see major player exodus and new arrivals after Europa League win

Aston Villa have seen three major players depart and several new, youthful talents arrive this summer, following their Europa League victory and fourth-place Premier League finish last season. Manager Unai Emery's assistant and other backroom staff have also left the club.

  • Aston Villa won the Europa League and finished fourth in the Premier League last season.
  • Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, and Ezri Konsa have left Aston Villa this summer.
  • New arrivals include Johan Manzambi, Zion Suzuki, João Gomes, Matteo Ruggeri, Alejandro Garnacho (loan), and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Aston Villa are undergoing significant squad changes this summer, with three key players departing after their successful 2025/26 season. The club lifted the Europa League trophy and secured Champions League qualification by finishing fourth in the Premier League.

Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, and Ezri Konsa have all left the club. Rogers moved to Chelsea for £117m (less 20% to Middlesbrough), Konsa departed for £51m, and Tielemans joined Manchester United after his £35m release clause was triggered. Emí Martínez and Ollie Watkins may also leave.

The club has brought in several new players, including attacking midfielder Johan Manzambi, goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, midfielder João Gomes, and left-back Matteo Ruggeri. Alejandro Garnacho has joined on loan, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka arrived from West Ham. These changes have resulted in a net surplus of £160m for the club.

Beyond the playing squad, there have also been changes in the backroom staff. Unai Emery's assistant, Pako Ayestarán, has departed, along with the set-piece coach, two physios, and the head of the medical team.

Why this matters: The significant changes to Aston Villa's squad and staff introduce an element of risk, but also potential for rejuvenation, after their most successful season since 1982.
