Police in South Africa have reported that at least 27 people have died in two separate mass shootings near the country's two largest cities. The South African police service stated on Sunday that 17 people were killed on Saturday night when eight suspects, armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols, opened fire at a bar in Wedela township, south-west of Johannesburg. At least 15 other individuals sustained gunshot injuries in that attack.
In a separate incident, police said 10 people were killed in a mass shooting at a store in Lwandle, near Cape Town, at approximately 1am on Sunday. Another 11 people were wounded in this shooting. Police are searching for multiple suspects in connection with this attack, but did not provide an exact number.
These attacks occurred days after a mass shooting at a house party near Durban, which killed 11 people, including a pregnant woman. Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made in the two latest mass shootings.
