A major all-female track and field event, the Athlos meeting, is set to take place on Friday at the StoneX Stadium in Hendon, London. The event has already sold out, with fans eager to see top athletes compete.
Among the stars expected to feature are Britain's Keely Hodgkinson and American athletes Gabby Thomas and Tara Davis-Woodhall. Competitors will be vying for a share of a $1 million (£750,000) prize fund.
US entrepreneur and investor Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit and founder of Angel City FC, is behind the Athlos meeting. He believes women's track and field has significant growth potential, citing the running boom and the upcoming Los Angeles Olympics.
Ohanian expressed his vision for women's sport, stating, "Ten years from now, there will be multiple billion-dollar women’s teams in basketball and soccer, and they will be doing at least a hundred million in revenue easily." He also noted that Chelsea will be the first in England to achieve this.
