David Gray departs Hibs after two seasons as head coach

David Gray has left his role as Hibs head coach on Wednesday evening, following a period of six successive home defeats in the league and the club sitting ninth in the table.

  • David Gray departed Hibs on Wednesday evening after two-and-a-bit seasons as first team manager.
  • Hibs are currently ninth in the league table with six points from six games.
  • The club has recorded six successive home defeats in the league, equalling a club record from 1920.

David Gray has exited his position as Hibs head coach on Wednesday evening, concluding a tenure of over two seasons. His departure follows a challenging period for the club, marked by six consecutive home defeats in the league, which matches a club record set in 1920.

Hibs currently sit ninth in the league table, having secured six points from six games. A recent loss to Kilmarnock on Tuesday, coupled with a perceived lack of energy and entertainment in their style of play, contributed to the decision.

Gray, a former player and Scottish Cup-winning icon for Hibs, had previously led the team to back-to-back top-five league finishes, a feat not achieved since the early 1970s. He also guided Hibs to European football in consecutive seasons and secured wins at Ibrox in three consecutive seasons, as well as a victory at Celtic Park last season.
