Atoms, the startup founded by Travis Kalanick, is reportedly preparing to enter the autonomous vehicle industry. This move could involve a hiring spree and acquisitions, according to a report in the Financial Times.
Earlier this summer, Atoms announced a $1.7 billion funding round, led by Andreessen Horowitz. Uber has reportedly invested $100 million in Atoms and has discussed using the startup's robotaxi technology.
The company previously acquired Pronto, an autonomous mining startup. While sources reportedly emphasised that robotaxis do not represent the entirety of Atoms' plans, this direction aligns with Kalanick's description of the funding round as "unfinished business."
