Temperatures are forecast to drop across many parts of the UK as more autumnal conditions replace the recent September warmth. A weather front is moving eastwards on Wednesday, bringing outbreaks of heavy rain to some areas and leaving cooler air in its wake.
While daytime highs in most regions will be close to the late September average, some cold nights are anticipated. Frost is possible in a few locations on Thursday morning, particularly in parts of eastern Scotland around the Grampians.
Higher temperatures are expected to make a partial return by the end of the week, with south-east England likely to experience temperatures in the mid-20s Celsius again. Elsewhere, temperatures will generally remain in the mid to high teens.
Strengthening winds will bring increasing cloud to north-western parts of the UK on Thursday, with rain likely in parts of western Scotland and Northern Ireland later, and gales in coastal districts.
