Bake Off axes chocolate and ice cream rounds due to summer heatwave

The Great British Bake Off has confirmed that dedicated chocolate and ice cream rounds will not feature in the new season, citing prohibitive conditions in the tent during a summer heatwave.

  • The decision was made due to conditions in the tent during a summer heatwave.
  • The 17th series of the show filmed over the summer.

The Great British Bake Off has announced that dedicated chocolate and ice cream rounds will not be part of the upcoming season. The decision stems from the challenging conditions experienced in the tent during a heatwave this summer, which reportedly made delicate food tasks prohibitive.

The official Bake Off account shared the news on TikTok, noting it had been the “hottest summer on record and there’s no Chocolate Week or Ice Cream Week.” They added, “We think it’s time to break this news to y’all.”

While Ice Cream Week has never been a designated theme, Chocolate Week was introduced in 2020 during the 13th series and has appeared intermittently since. The show, featuring judges Paul Hollywood and Nigella Lawson, and presenters Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond, has yet to reveal the full list of theme weeks for the new series.

The current series has already included Cake Week on Tuesday 22 September and Biscuit Week on Tuesday 29 September. The next episode, set to air on Tuesday 6 October, will feature a new theme called Audience Choice Week.

Biscuit Week saw the first elimination of the series, with Danni, a 25-year-old service centre administrator from Dorset, leaving the competition. West Yorkshire hairdresser Tom was named star baker for the week.
