TikTok announced on Monday that it is rolling out an AI shopping assistant and a new in-app checkout feature. The new tools allow users to purchase products directly from brands within the app.
The company describes its new Shopping Assistant as a conversational AI agent. It is designed to help users discover and buy products, offering real-time guidance on details like product information, shipping, sizing, and availability. TikTok states the assistant can understand context and remember user preferences throughout conversations.
The new checkout feature enables users to make purchases directly from a brand in their For You feed with a single click. These features are being developed in partnership with various commerce platforms and payment providers, including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe.
This expansion aims to integrate shopping tools more directly into the broader TikTok app, moving beyond its existing TikTok Shop marketplace. The company's Economic Impact Report, released last week, indicated that activity on the platform generated $81 billion in GDP for U.S. businesses and that 54 million Americans had bought a product after watching a TikTok video.
