The highly anticipated sequel to 2022's The Batman has been hit with another production delay. Warner Bros and DC Studios announced on Monday that production on The Batman Part II is being paused because director Matt Reeves has been forced to step away for personal reasons.
DC Studios stated, "Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter." The studio added, "Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon."
Robert Pattinson is set to return as the titular superhero, with Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell also reprising their roles as Alfred Pennyworth and Oz Cobb (the Penguin), respectively. Before this pause, the movie was scheduled to premiere on February 18, 2028. It is currently unclear if this hiatus will lead to further changes in the release schedule.
This marks the third postponement for the film. It was initially planned for an October 3, 2025 release, then shifted to October 1, 2027, following the 2023 writers' and actors' strikes. A subsequent delay moved it to February 18, 2028, to allow Reeves more post-production time and align with the Presidents' Day holiday release window.
