Bangladesh asserted their dominance over Australia on day one of the first Test in Darwin, despite a controversial technology reprieve for Australian batter Steve Smith.
Smith, on seven, appeared to nick a ball from Ebadot Hossain, and later stated he felt something, but Snicko technology showed a flat line, leading umpire Kumar Dharmasena's not out decision to stand. Smith went on to score 71 runs.
However, the rest of the Australian batting line-up struggled against Tigers fast bowler Hasan Mahmud, who claimed a career-best 6-55. Australia were dismissed for 198. In reply, Bangladesh reached 96-1 at the close of play, with Mominul Haque unbeaten on 35 and Tanzid Hasan Tamim on 32 not out, trailing by 102 runs.
