The Bank of England announced today, 27 August 2026, that it is delaying its November 2026 RTGS standards release. This includes the messaging standards for CHAPS payments.
The decision follows Swift's announcement on the same day to delay its November 2026 Swift Standards Release. Swift's deferral was made after industry requests for additional time to prepare for the removal of the unstructured postal address format, citing concerns about global readiness.
The Bank of England stated that maintaining global alignment is crucial for preserving interoperability and avoiding new implementation risks. The entire November 2026 RTGS standards release will be deferred, consistent with Swift's delay of the CBPR+ standards release.
