The Barbican Conservatory is offering more than 2,000 plant cuttings for adoption as it prepares for an extensive three-year restoration and renewal project. The renovation is set to begin in early 2027.
Londoners can claim a piece of the Conservatory's collection, which includes species such as giant-leafed monstera, glossy ficus, and purple-and-green tradescantia. This adoption programme is a collaboration with Wayward Plants.
The first plant adoption event is scheduled for Wednesday 19 August, between 12pm and 5pm, with bookings currently open. Additional events are planned for 13 September and 2 December. Young Barbican members will also have an opportunity to adopt a plant on 29 November.
The restoration project, overseen by the in-house team and Harris Bugg Studio, aims to transform the multi-storey glasshouse into a space that will be open daily, with upgrades to waterproofing, heating, glazing, and irrigation systems.
