A High Court judge has overturned a contempt of court ruling against a barrister representing Palestine Action, a group of environmental activists who have been involved in protests at the UK's Ministry of Defence.
The contempt of court ruling was made against Rajiv Menon KC, following a hearing at the High Court in London. However, Mr Menon KC has successfully challenged the ruling, stating that he was performing his duty as a barrister to fairly and fully represent his client.
The case centres around Palestine Action's protests, which have been targeting the UK's Ministry of Defence over its alleged links to Israeli companies involved in the construction of Israel's separation barrier in the occupied West Bank.
Mr Menon KC's challenge was made on the grounds that he was simply doing his job as a barrister, and that the contempt of court ruling was an attempt to gag him from representing his client.
The decision has been welcomed by Palestine Action, who have hailed it as a victory for free speech and the right to a fair trial.
