Police officers testified on Thursday in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, describing their arrival at her Massachusetts home in January 2023. Officers Stephen Hall and Brian Josephine were dispatched to the Duxbury residence, where they found Lindsay Clancy drifting in and out of consciousness in the snow after reportedly jumping from a second-floor window.
According to testimony, Patrick Clancy, her then-husband, frantically told officers that all three of their children were dead, screaming: “I can’t wake them up – I can’t get them up!” Officers followed his screams to the basement, where they found the children. Fire department supervisor PJ Hussey testified to seeing Patrick Clancy unwrapping an exercise band from a child's neck.
The trial focuses on Lindsay Clancy’s mental state at the time. Her lawyers do not dispute that she strangled the children with exercise bands, but argue she was in the grip of postpartum psychosis. Prosecutors contend that Clancy, a former nurse, acted intentionally and is criminally responsible for the deaths.
Earlier this week, jurors heard testimony from Patrick Clancy, who had discovered the bodies of three-year-old Dawson, five-year-old Cora, and eight-month-old Callan. If convicted of murder, Lindsay Clancy faces life in prison without parole. If found not guilty due to a lack of criminal responsibility, she would be committed to a state mental health facility.
