Matchroom president Barry Hearn has announced a five-year financial commitment to Brentwood Town FC, with the goal of seeing the club promoted to the English Football League (EFL) by 2031. Hearn, who previously sold Leyton Orient over a decade ago, stated he would not be involved in football again, but is now motivated by leaving a legacy in the community where Matchroom is based.
Hearn has a 20% stake in the club and Matchroom is injecting a six-figure sum through sponsorship. He believes the club needs additional support from 20 to 50 other local supporters to ensure sustainability.
A key part of the club's ambition involves acquiring its home stadium. Hearn plans to engage with the local council to advocate for the club's ownership of the ground, which he deems necessary for future investment and success.
