Blues Cabaret and Karaoke Bar in Ashton-under-Lyne has had its licence suspended for three months by Tameside Council following an incident where customers reportedly continued dancing while paramedics attempted to save a man's life.
Shane Cullen, 31, died after being assaulted at the Bow Street venue on 11 July. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) told a Tameside Council licensing committee hearing that management did not stop music, cease alcohol sales, raise lights, or evacuate the premises despite the situation's severity.
PC Craig Foley of GMP raised concerns about "significant failings in management, supervision, compliance and leadership." He stated that police officers were ultimately required to clear the premises themselves to create a safe working environment for paramedics.
The bar's licence had been temporarily suspended after the incident. Councillors decided on a further three-month suspension and ordered new conditions for re-opening, including stopping alcohol sales at 01:00, changing the designated premises supervisor, mandatory customer searching, and CCTV improvements.
Carl Cooper, 36, has been charged with Mr Cullen's murder and is due to stand trial in January next year.
