A Base jumper, aged 27, died on Sunday in Utah after his wingsuit failed during a 700ft fall, according to authorities. The incident took place in a mountainous area of Hyrum, located east of Millville.
Search-and-rescue teams were deployed to Leetham's Hollow, where they declared the man dead at the scene. A Cache county chief sheriff's deputy, Doyle Peck, reportedly stated that "something went wrong, and he did not have enough lift with his wingsuit," leading to him impacting the ground at high speed.
The man's identity is being withheld pending family notification. He was described as an experienced Base jumper and was with a group engaging in the activity. This fatality adds to 15 Base jumping deaths recorded worldwide so far in 2026, according to the Base Fatality List, which has registered 548 deaths since 1981.
