The British Museum in London is set to open an exhibition centred on the Bayeux Tapestry on 10 September. The embroidered artwork depicts the Norman invasion of Britain in 1066 and is described as the most anticipated exhibition of the year. The exhibition will run until 11 July.
Also opening in London on 10 September is Tschabalala Self's 'Lady in Blue' on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. This sculpture portrays a young woman in a blue dress and is anticipated to be a significant attraction.
Further art exhibitions scheduled for autumn include Sunil Gupta: Life With a Camera, 1970-Now at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge, from 19 September. The Turner Prize exhibition will open at MIMA, Middlesbrough, on 26 September, featuring artists such as Kira Freije and Simeon Barclay. Beverly Buchanan: Weathering will also begin on 26 September at Spike Island, Bristol.
