The loan of the Bayeux Tapestry has led to renewed discussion about its historical depictions, with a letter to the Guardian UK highlighting the limited representation of women in the artwork. The tapestry is reported to show 93 penises and six women, with three of the women remaining anonymous.
Despite the disparity in portrayal, all the needlework on the tapestry was completed by women. One reader suggested it would be beneficial to hear more about the women involved in history rather than focusing on male leadership.
King Charles commented on the "entente amicale" between France and the UK during a viewing of the tapestry on 2 September. Andy Burnham also made a reference to the tapestry showing a new leader from a northern territory travelling south in search of the crown.
