The BBC offered around £900,000 for the broadcast rights to the Commonwealth Games, a figure representing a 91 per cent decrease compared to the £10 million it paid for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
TNT Sports, owned by Warner Bros Discovery, ultimately secured the rights for approximately £5 million. This deal made TNT Sports the competition's official UK partner, providing live coverage on its linear TV channel and streaming on HBO Max.
This marks the first time since 1954 that the BBC did not broadcast the Commonwealth Games live. However, the broadcaster did cover the event through the BBC Sport website, BBC News, and Radio 5 Live, and also secured live Gaelic rights for BBC Alba and iPlayer.
