BBC Cymru Wales has secured a new three-year deal with the Football Association of Wales to broadcast selected Novira Cymru Premier games live on BBC iPlayer.

  • The agreement includes a minimum of 20 live games per season until 2029.
  • The first broadcast match will be Barry Town United v Cardiff Met on Saturday, 15 August.
  • The league has expanded from 12 to 16 clubs for its 35th edition.

BBC Cymru Wales has reached a new agreement with the Football Association of Wales (FAW) to broadcast selected Novira Cymru Premier games live. The deal, set to run for three years until 2029, guarantees a minimum of 20 live matches per season, all available on BBC iPlayer.

Extensive coverage updates for the league will also be provided on BBC Sport Online. The inaugural match under this new agreement will feature Barry Town United against Cardiff Met on Saturday, 15 August, with a 12:30 BST kick-off. Both teams have won their opening two games of the season.

Following this, Ammanford v Connah's Quay Nomads will be broadcast on iPlayer on Saturday, 22 August, also kicking off at 12:30 BST. Carolyn Hitt, BBC Wales head of sport, stated that this deal reinforces their commitment to live Welsh football coverage, building on a recent announcement to show all UEFA Wales men's international games up to Euro 2028.

Jack Sharp, FAW head of domestic leagues, expressed delight at the BBC's return to Welsh domestic football. He noted that the agreement is a significant step in boosting the Novira Cymru Premier's profile, aiming to reach more supporters across Wales and the wider UK through increased free-to-air coverage. The number of free live broadcast offerings has reportedly doubled compared to last season.

The league, established in 1992, has been revamped for its 35th edition, with games largely shifting to Friday evenings. The number of clubs has increased from 12 to 16, with Llandudno, Airbus UK, Holywell Town, Trefelin BGC, Cambrian United, and Ammanford gaining promotion.

Why this matters: This agreement aims to increase the profile and reach of the Novira Cymru Premier, making Welsh domestic football more accessible to fans across Wales and the wider UK.

What this means for you: You will be able to watch a minimum of 20 live Novira Cymru Premier games per season on BBC iPlayer until 2029.
