The main building at Beaulieu Park Station is now substantially complete, bringing Chelmsford's new railway hub significantly closer to opening, Network Rail has announced.
The station, positioned on the Great Eastern Main Line between Chelmsford and Hatfield Peverel, will serve the expanding Beaulieu Park development where thousands of new homes are planned. When operational, it will offer two platforms, a 1,000-space car park, and secure cycle storage to encourage sustainable commuting.
Network Rail is delivering the infrastructure alongside Greater Anglia, which will operate services from the station. Countryside Partnerships, developing the Beaulieu Park housing scheme, is also a key partner in the project.
The new station is expected to ease congestion at Chelmsford's existing railway station, which regularly handles heavy passenger volumes. It will provide direct services to London Liverpool Street, crucial for Essex commuters, whilst reducing road traffic during peak hours.
The development forms part of wider efforts to improve transport links across the East of England, supporting economic growth and better connectivity for local communities. The station is expected to attract further investment to the area, making Beaulieu increasingly appealing to residents and businesses.
Despite the building's completion, work continues on surrounding infrastructure including platform installation and final signalling tests. No opening date has been confirmed, but progress suggests the station will soon become a vital addition to Essex's transport network.
