Former NFL head coach Bill Belichick is bringing his North Carolina Tar Heels to Dublin for their season opener against Texas Christian University this weekend. Belichick, who secured six Super Bowl victories with the New England Patriots, transitioned to college football before last season.
North Carolina punter Adam Gibbs-McCann, a County Down teenager, expressed being "blown away" by Belichick's coaching. Gibbs-McCann, who only recently took up American football, is set to make his debut at the Aviva Stadium.
Linebacker Derek McDonald also highlighted the value of learning from Belichick, stating it is "pretty special" to work under him. McDonald noted Belichick's extensive wisdom, not just in football but also in life, and his dedication to preparation.
Belichick's first year in college resulted in a 4-8 record for North Carolina. Despite this, players are keen to absorb his knowledge as they prepare for the upcoming season.
