Bristol Bears centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg was stretchered off the pitch during a Gallagher Premiership match against Northampton Saints at Ashton Gate. The incident occurred after an attempted tackle on England teammate Henry Pollock, with Janse van Rensburg appearing to be knocked out.
The game was paused for a significant period to allow medical attention for the 29-year-old. TNT Sports reported that Janse van Rensburg was conscious and speaking after being taken down the tunnel, and footage from the dressing room reportedly showed him walking and chatting with teammates.
This marks the second such incident for Janse van Rensburg in recent months, following a similar scenario during his second international cap against Argentina in July. The South African-born midfielder had made a try-scoring start to his Test career against Fiji a week prior.
Janse van Rensburg is expected to be a regular member of Steve Borthwick’s England squad over the next 12 months as the team prepares for next year’s World Cup. Borthwick is set to name a squad later in October for upcoming Nations Championship games against Australia, Japan, and New Zealand.
