The Flower Box, a charity in Beverley, East Yorkshire, which repurposes flowers nearing the end of their shelf life, has received its largest single donation of 17,000 white roses. Karen Simpkin, who runs the charity, is selling the flowers for 25p a bunch.
All funds raised from the sale will be donated to various organisations, including Hull-based mental health charity Mysterious Minds, Dove House Hospice in Hull, and the Teenage Cancer Trust. Ms Simpkin stated that volunteers dedicated 11 hours to prepare the roses, which were donated by Ambience Venue Styling, an East Yorkshire wedding company.
Ms Simpkin confirmed that more than half of the flowers have already been sold, raising thousands of pounds for charity. She explained that the venture began to "rescue" out-of-date flowers from supermarkets that would otherwise be discarded.
