A consortium featuring Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has progressed its talks to purchase an estimated 30% stake in Liverpool Football Club. The group, which also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, is spearheaded by British-Indian millionaire businessman Amit Bhatia.
Owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) confirmed last month that the group had "expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club." Bhatia, son-in-law of Lakshmi Mittal, recently relinquished his stake in Queens Park Rangers, where he had served as a director and co-owner for 18 years.
Bezos, the 62-year-old founder of Amazon, is reportedly the world's fourth-richest person with an estimated net worth of $256bn (£192bn).
