A blue plaque is set to be unveiled at the Surrey home once occupied by Michael Bond, the creator of Paddington Bear. The ceremony will take place on Saturday at Fairacre in Haslemere, where Bond lived from 1968 for a decade.
During his time at the property, Bond wrote several Paddington books and scripts for the original television series. He passed away in 2017 at the age of 91.
The unveiling has been arranged with the permission of the current owners, Steph and Neil Stephenson, who were informed of their home's history by the Haslemere Society. Chris Harrison, chairman of the society, noted that Bond only became eligible for a plaque this year, either 20 years after his death or the centenary of his birth.
The programme for Saturday's event includes a speech from Bond's daughter, Karen Jankel, who will discuss the family's time in Haslemere. The unveiling is scheduled to commence at 15:00 BST.
