A blue plaque is to be installed in Halifax in honour of former England striker Frank Worthington. Worthington, who earned eight England caps and scored two goals for the national team, started his career at Huddersfield Town.
The Halifax Civic Trust launched a fundraising campaign for the plaque, which quickly met its initial target of £650. The donation page remains open, with additional funds to be given to the Alzheimer's Society's Sport United Against Dementia fund.
John Peters, a volunteer and committee member for the trust, stated that the plaque will offer the community "a way to remember" Worthington, who is believed to be Halifax's only ever capped England player. The trust hopes to unveil the plaque later this year at Worthington's family home in Shelf, where he was born in 1948.
