Train services operated by CrossCountry across the UK have been cancelled following a power cut at the company's control centre in Birmingham. The power outage, which began on Saturday, has rendered many railway management systems unavailable, leading to significant disruption.
Almost all CrossCountry routes are affected, with cancellations expected until further notice. Major routes impacted include services between Manchester and Birmingham, which serves Stoke-on-Trent, Coventry, and Wolverhampton, as well as routes from Leeds to York, Cheltenham to Cardiff, and Glasgow to Edinburgh.
The only route anticipated to have a near-normal service is between Peterborough, Cambridge, and Stansted Airport. CrossCountry has apologised to affected passengers, stating that tickets are being accepted by other operators.
Passengers experiencing delays of 30 minutes or more are entitled to Delay Repay compensation. Those who decide not to travel can claim a refund for their journey.
