Bluesky's chief executive and chief operating officer are set to argue that social media can start over, and that their platform is part of that reboot. CEO Toni Schneider, who became permanent after an interim period, and COO Rose Wang will speak at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 in San Francisco.
Schneider took on the role after Bluesky's founding CEO Jay Graber moved to chief innovation officer, saying the company needed a seasoned operator focused on scaling and execution. Schneider said the company is at the beginning of a decade of work to build an open web.
Wang, who has been with Bluesky since 2021, said at SXSW London that there is an increasing need for human-to-human connection after a deluge of AI-filled feeds. She said Facebook and Twitter are huge and basically AI companies, making it difficult for them to turn the shift.
Why this matters: Bluesky is a test of whether networks built on open protocols can retain communities and potentially take market share from established competitors.
What this means for you: Attendees at Disrupt 2026 can hear Bluesky's case in person, with tickets available before prices rise later this month.
