Strong winds of up to 50mph will batter much of the UK today, with the Met Office warning of challenging conditions for commuters and potential travel disruption across exposed areas.
Coastal regions and higher ground face the strongest gusts, whilst intermittent showers will sweep across most of the country. Despite mild temperatures of 8°C to 12°C, wind chill will make it feel considerably colder, particularly in northern areas.
Scotland bears the brunt of today's weather, with heavy and persistent rain forecast for western parts alongside gale-force winds. Northern Ireland will see sunshine mixed with showers, whilst the North West and South West of England face frequent downpours and strong winds. The South East may escape the worst conditions with some drier spells, though it will remain breezy. Wales will experience scattered showers and blustery conditions, especially along western coasts.
The Met Office warns motorists to take extra care, particularly high-sided vehicles using exposed roads and bridges. Minor power cuts are possible in some areas due to falling branches, whilst debris may affect road conditions. Pedestrians should remain alert near buildings and trees.
The unsettled pattern continues into mid-week, with further bands of rain and strong winds expected. Whilst no severe weather warnings are currently in place, the Met Office advises staying updated with forecasts, especially for those travelling or planning outdoor activities.
