A body discovered in a suitcase in an abandoned building in central Athens has been identified as a 38-year-old British woman. Greek authorities stated she had been dead for several weeks prior to the discovery.
Police were able to identify the remains 11 days after the find, following appeals to foreign law enforcement agencies. A source confirmed the identification and that the woman's next of kin have been informed, adding she was born in Scotland in 1988.
The woman, described as 5ft 4in tall with auburn hair, was found wrapped in cloth and placed in a bin bag inside the suitcase. She was reportedly discovered by a homeless man on 18 July in a derelict building in Kypseli.
Greek homicide officers had sent fingerprints to Interpol after local database searches yielded no results. US authorities provided DNA evidence that aided the identification. Police are treating the incident as a criminal act and are examining CCTV footage and flight logs to reconstruct her movements.
