New South Wales police have identified a decomposed body found last week as Yvonne Whear, a 73-year-old woman who went missing eight months ago after being last seen in Murwillumbah. Police confirmed on Tuesday that her death is being treated as a homicide.

The body was discovered partially submerged in a disused stock dip, a large trough, in a remote stockyard in Terragon. Acting Superintendent Matt Zimmer stated that investigators are determined to find those responsible for her death.

Ms Whear was last seen on CCTV on 19 February, buying orange juice and adding phone credit at a service station in Murwillumbah. Her car, a gold Ford Escape wagon, was later found by police divers in the Rous River in Dulguigan in mid-September, a short distance from her home.

Police are urging anyone with information, including those who may have previously spoken to police or have unshared details, to come forward.
