One person has died and several others were injured following an incident involving a rollercoaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday afternoon, police have confirmed. The event took place at the park, located about 15 miles (25km) north-west of Atlanta.
The Cobb county police department stated that officials have not yet confirmed how the individual died or what caused the injuries to others. However, multiple outlets have reported that a person fell from the park’s Goliath rollercoaster, citing eyewitnesses and anonymous local officials.
The Goliath rollercoaster, introduced in 2006, features a 175ft drop and can reach a top speed of 70mph (110km/h). A spokesperson for Six Flags expressed deep sadness over the incident and confirmed that the park and local authorities responded immediately, with the park fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
