Arsenal's perfect start to their Premier League title defence concluded emphatically with a 3-0 defeat against Brighton. The Gunners had aimed to equal a 123-year club record of eight straight victories to begin a season.
Brighton's Pascal Gross opened the scoring after 31 minutes. Charalampos Kostoulas then doubled the hosts' lead just before half-time. Chema Andres sealed the victory for Brighton with a header shortly before the hour mark.
The result, which manager Fabian Hurzeler described as potentially the best of his career, propels Brighton to third in the Premier League table, placing them just two points adrift of Arsenal.
