Bristol Bears were defeated 49-12 by South African side Stormers in their first pool match of this season's Investec Champions Cup. The Stormers scored seven tries, with Jonathan Roche and Leolin Zas each crossing the try line twice.

Stormers' hooker JJ Kotze received a 20-minute red card before half-time for head-to-head contact with Bristol captain Kieran Marmion. Leolin Zas was also sin-binned for a high tackle, leaving Stormers with 13 men at one point.

Despite periods of pressure and two tries from Joe Owen and Sol Moody, Bristol were unable to mount a comeback. Replacements Warrick Gelant and Andre-Hugo Venter, along with Zas, added further scores for Stormers, who secured a bonus point.

Bristol Bears, who have won two of their first three Prem games, are scheduled to host Munster in their next Champions Cup fixture on 12 December. They will then play French clubs Racing 92 and Bordeaux in January to conclude the pool phase.
