On Wednesday 26 August, British High Commissioner Paul Turner hosted athletes and officials from Team Solomons for afternoon tea. The event at the British High Commission in Honiara recognised their participation in the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland, last month.
Team Solomons represented the Solomon Islands at their 11th Commonwealth Games, which took place from 23 July to 2 August. The delegation comprised 13 men and women who competed in athletics, boxing, judo, swimming, and weightlifting/para powerlifting.
While the team did not secure any medals, they achieved personal bests in swimming and middle- and long-distance running. High Commissioner Turner commended the team's spirit and the personal bests achieved, specifically acknowledging veteran weightlifter Jenly Tegu Wini, who has competed in five consecutive Commonwealth Games, and para powerlifter Moffet Tolomae.
Team Manager Simon Chottu stated that the team would be seeking success at the Pacific Games in Tahiti in July 2027. He added that Team Solomons returned home with pride, having represented the nation and laid a foundation for future competitions.
